| Not | Call Number - 0001038; Detail of page from the Kulliyat (Collected Works) of the popular Persian poet Sa'di. Shows text at top and bottom of the page, with central image depicting four individuals on horseback, along with another two figures on foot. The deer hiding behind a rock at the left of the image indicates that this may be a hunting scene. Read widely throughout the world and influencing the writings of individuals such as Diderot, Hugo and Voltaire, the works of Sa’di (d.1291), were first collected into a single volume during the fourteenth century and are known for their social and moral themes. An illustrated volume of Sa’di’s Kulliyat, the miniatures from this manuscript appear to depict scenes from within the text and are rich in both colour and detail. Sources: Arnold, E.
