He was born during the reign of Akbar, often praised in his poem, and “in whose service” (f. 223) he entered 1007H./ 1598-9, “69 years ago.” To the f. 19v, the author claims to be 74 years old and to the f. 45-5v, he evokes the Amīr Amīn al-Dīn and the musician Tān Sīn, contemporary of Akbar. This is (f. 44v) during the reign of Awrangzēb, which he put in verse this epic; a worm added in the margin of the f. 12 shows the date of 1073H./ 1662-3 as that of the composition (and we find in the margins of the f. 284v that of 1072H./1661-2). He drew stories in prose from a Rāvī or Qiș a-hwān which he would have heard (f. 19v) at the age of 12, under Akbar, lāllIl Il Qāsim (23 32v, 34, 47v, 162v, 236v), and from another work versioned by a certain Ma ș ūm Bahādur of Lahore (f. 162v), who lived in Agrah under Il ahnīr’ he would have read later, “between 20 and 40 years” (f. 19v); the Rawat al-A ' During the preface (f. 1v-8), there is a versified table (f. 4-8) of the 62 parts of the narrative. The text itself occupies the f’s. 9v-276v and is followed by an appendix (f. 277v-84v) entitled (f. 277) Aễvāl-i Qayș ūr va vāqiva-i vafāt-i 9Umar.
