The document is made out to Theodorus and Didymus by two officials named Phoebammon and Martyrius. The payment is in connection with local building or decorating work. Translation (Rees, Bell, Barns, Merton II, 1959): To my lord and brother Theodorus and Didymus, from the foreman of the painters(?), Phoebammon, and Martyrius, chief of the ward. Provide, for the guards, the Arabian archers, in payment, to the chief clerk of the singulares, for gratuity for the tenth indiction, eight keratia of gold, total 8 keratia only. That is the complete account of what is coming to me. Signed, Phoebammon, chief of the ward. |
