| Not | Ostraca (broken piece of pottery) written in Coptic in the 7th or 8th century in Egypt. The text is an exhortatory tag probably written as a student exercise. ‘Blame no man, except that you have prayed... Be at peace with everyone in order that you might pray in Paradise (?). This is the Law of the Prophets.’ The staurogram became a standard opening to Christian documentary texts written in Coptic. A staurogram ⳨ is a Christian symbol derived from a ligature, the combination of two or more letters into a single glyph, in this case Tau (Τ) and Rho (Ρ). |
