| Not | One of three extant bifolios (pages 49-60) from a parchment manuscript containing the Canons of St Basil (numbers 48-87). The manuscript was written in Sahidic (Coptic) in Egypt, and has been dated to the 9th or 10th century. The canons are a collection of rules relating to church discipline. Canon 80 (page 56). If a cleric sports a wreath upon his head, whether it be of purple or a palm or olive leaves, he shall be, if he is a priest, excommunicated for four months; if he is a deacon, he shall be excommuniated for two months; those in the other orders shall be punished by the priest. |
